ROGER BINNY SKILLS

1.The success of the under-19 team seems to have vindicated his approach to a great extent. But then, as he himself readily conceded, nothing succeeds like success! This articulate and perceptive cricketer, who has nevertheless remained very quiet after his team's success, broke his silence to exclusively share with M D Riti his experience of coaching and managing a bunch of youngsters.

2.Other than coaching successful teams, Binny continues to hold his job as deputy manager, State Bank of India. And on weekends, he runs a fairly lucrative and successful cricket coaching academy for the young boys of Bangalore.

3.So, how did you find the experience of coaching and managing the under-19s in Sri Lanka?

4.It was quite an easy job. The guys were all young, keen and raring to go. That made my job so much easier as I did not have to get after them to play well or do things.

3.Gavaskar’s arrival in England in 1971 for a three Test series generated substantial publicity in light of his debut series. He was unable to maintain his performance, making only two half centuries. He was involved in controversy when taking a quick single from the bowling of John Snow. They collided and Gavaskar fell over. Snow was suspended. Gavaskar’s 144 runs at the low average of 24,[2] led some to question Gavaskar’s worthiness in international cricket.[1]

4.In 1972-73, England toured India for a five Test series, Gavaskar’s first on home soil. He was ineffective in the first three Tests, accumulating only sixty runs in five innings as India took a 2-1 lead. He scored some runs in the final two Tests which India drew to complete consecutive series wins over England. His first home series was largely disappointing, aggregating 224 runs at 24.89.[2][broken footnote] His English critics were placated when India returned in 1974 and Gavaskar scored 101 and 58 in the First Test at Old Trafford. 1.Here to impart some tips to budding youngsters, the former Pakistan captain also announced his association with a pace academy to be launched by Cradle Sports in association with the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).

SRINATH SKILLS

1.Mumbai: Fine management skills, match preparedness and bringing harmony into the relationship between the players and umpires were some of the points Javagal Srinath highlighted at the BCCI’s seminar for about 40 match referees at the Cricket Centre here on Tuesday.

2.Srinath, an Elite Panel Referee of the International Cricket Council (ICC), impressed upon the match referees, majority of them retired first class players, the processes involved in the conduct of a match.

3.“Subtle skills are required,” said Srinath, who along with Suresh Shastri and Ameish Saheba will be attending the ICC Referees and Umpires Seminar in Johannesburg from September 23 to 25.

4.The BCCI’s domestic season is scheduled to start with the Irani Cup match between Mumbai and Rest of India at Rajkot from Oct. 6.
